Fat Man weighs in on Joakim Noah

The late 70's. Drugs. Terrible rock music. Jack Palance. Andy Warhol. Even more terrible disco music. A nerd getting doused in baby powder by a semi-nude maid. I am now older than my parents, having watched these interminable scenes.

Reefer Madness is one of the best-known b-movies, and one of the best-loved, at least by those who've never seen it. It's almost hard to believe that this little cult classic, a Gen-Y pop culture reference, the blueprint for every after-school special and "very special episode," the subject of a very stupid musical, is, well... boring. But like Plan 9 From Outer Space, the idea of this b-movie is a lot more impressive than the movie itself.

A funny thing happened to me in Boston the other day. As I was going on my merry way near the Commons a nervous-looking fellow came up to me and asked me, "I got mushrooms, you want to buy some mushrooms?" Not catching on right away, I answered, "No, thanks, but do you have any peppers?"
