"Time To Put Old Yeller Down?"
Brett Favre will go down as one of the true legends in NFL history. He has the rings, the records, the iconic moments. But right now the only thing legendary about Brett is his level of douchebaggery.
Yeah yeah I know, they will be trying to hunt me down if I ever try to enter the state of Wisconsin but I call em like I see em. Favre retired in March but now wants to return. Green Bay said he can come to camp as the back-up to presumptive quarterback Aaron Rodgers; Favre's response was to ask for his unconditional release. And now you are basically all caught up.
Favre is that stripper way past her prime. She used to be a headliner with all her tricks and she decided to quit the business on top. But after a little cabin fever, she's running back to Silvio at the Bada Bing and you know what? There's a new girl whose time has come.
You'd imagine that people in Wisconsin, specifically Green Bay residents, would be most supportive of a Favre return but they have slinked into the minority. A rally in Wisconsin's largest city borught out only 30 people. A similar event in Green Bay saw around two hundred cheeseheads. Has the worm turned? It would appear so.
Aaron Rodgers may not be the next Brett Favre or even the next Jon Kitna but screwing him around is just plain wrong. He should have the opportunity to go out there and prove his worth. He did nothing to deserve the limbo this ugly break-up has created.
Brett Favre is wrestling with shadows, the shadows of an incredible career that is behind him. He could be an effective quarterback and team leader just about anywhere. He didn't have to announce his retirement but he did. Enjoy the fruits of your years on the gridiron, Brett. You have earned it. Don't make things difficult on yourself, the Packers, and the millions of your fans caught between a rock and a hard place right now. Do the right thing and keep your word. Stay retired.
