Setlist: Appolonia James, It Won't Be Long, Anonymous*, Now I Disappear*
Playing at a Columbia College band showcase with about eight other bands here. Each band gets twenty minutes to play, with ten minutes of setup, no soundcheck. We're band five, I think, going on at 10 o'clock. I loan my distortion pedal to the band before us, who play almost as loud as us and cause the PA system (usually used for drama and classical music) to blow fuses and go out. By the time we take the stage the PA is back on, but eight seconds into Appolonia it goes out again. They get it back on, but it goes out fifteen seconds into take two. After ten minutes of fooling around with the equipment they get it working again and we play through Appolonia and It Won't Be Long. Before we can continue, however, the show's producer stops the show completely- they're not sure the PA can make it through our set! Instead of tearing through two more songs the band and entourage head for nearby watering hole to catch a Cubs game on TV and joke about having won a reputation for blowing out PA systems.
